What is a Breast Lift?
A breast lift is a procedure done for breasts that have lost volume and have started to sag. This is often seen after patients have had children or have lost significant weight. Although most Texas breast lift patients are women, Dr. Joseph M. Perlman sees some men who have had massive weight loss after gastric bypass surgery and have redundant tissue on their chests. His female patients will often desire a breast augmentation at the same time as their Spring breast lift to regain some of the lost volume.
To learn more about breast lifts in Spring, please contact Dr. Perlman at Advanced Plastic Surgery Centre for a consultation. He will extensively discuss your goals, evaluate your health and carefully examine you to determine the most appropriate course of action. For more than 25 years, he has helped thousands of men and women from Spring, The Woodlands and other areas in and around Houston.
Sometimes these conditions may be inherited traits. In certain cases, the breasts may have developed differently so that one breast is firm and well positioned while the other is not. There may be differences in the size of your breasts, as well as their shape. Breasts that are large and heavy can be lifted, but the results may not be as long-lasting as when the procedure is done on smaller breasts.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding may have significant and unpredictable effects on the size and shape of your breasts. Nevertheless, many women decide to undergo a Spring breast lift before having children and feel that they can address any subsequent changes later. Because the milk ducts and nipples are left intact, mastopexy usually will not affect your ability to breastfeed; however, you should discuss this with your Dr. Perlman during your initial appointment.
What is the Process for a Breast Lift in Spring?
Dr. Perlman tries to perform most of his breast lifts with the smallest incisions possible. For this reason, he often does a Benelli technique, which was developed in Brazil. This involves an incision around the areola only, with dissection of the skin off of the underlying breast tissue. He then reshapes the breast mound and redrapes the skin. This kind of Spring breast lift tends to cause puckering around the edges of the areola, but that usually resolves, leaving a nice, flat scar.
The simplest breast lifts are limited to an incision around the areola. However, the incision may also include a vertical component if there is more skin laxity. When a vertical incision is needed, it creates a "lollipop"-shaped scar. In the most ptotic breasts, the beast lift includes an incision along the inframmary crease. Typically, all of the scars fade nicely, and Spring breast lift patients are quite happy with the overall appearance.
In some situations a breast augmentation alone will compensate for a small amount of sagging or ptosis. If the sagging is significant (the nipple is below the level of the inframmary crease), a Spring breast lift will also be advised. These are usually done at the same time as the breast augmentation.
When you meet with Dr. Perlman, he will discuss your procedure in detail, welcoming any questions you may have. Detailed pre- and post-op instructions will be provided for you, both during your Spring breast lift consultation and after surgery.
What Does Recovery Entail After a Breast Lift?
After a breast lift in Spring, you will be asked to wear an elastic bandage or support bra for about one to two weeks. Your breasts will be sore and swollen for a few weeks, and you may feel a burning sensation in your nipples. Most Spring breast lift patients return to work within two weeks.
Healing is an individual process that varies depending on the patient and the procedure. You can count on Dr. Perlman and his Advanced Plastic Surgery Centre staff to monitor you every step of the way. We have helped thousands of Houston-area patients through successful recoveries after a breast lift in Spring.
