Liposuction
Many of my patients are active people. They work out and watch their diet, but are concerned about the fact that they no longer have that nice slim waistline.
Patients often come in with a preconceived notion that they need a tummy tuck or need liposuction. Once I evaluate the patient, we discuss treatment options which may include liposuction, tummy tuck, or both. If the problem is fat that just doesn't seem to go away, despite all of their efforts, and the skin is not loose, then liposuction is the primary treatment. I often use VASER technique, which is an ultrasonic liposuction technique. VASER, in my opinion, produces better results and causes less bruising, less swelling, less pain, and a faster recovery than conventional liposuctioning. Ultrasonic sound waves are converted to heat, which emulsifies the fat. This is similar to how Smart Lipo uses laser light , converted to heat to accomplish the same result. Recovery time is 1-2 weeks
Other patients have more of a problem of skin laxity and stretch marks, but not as much fat. These patients are candidates for skin resection procedures such as a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty. The length of the incision is determined by how much skin laxity there is. The incision is always hidden within the panty line, so the length of the incision is not crucial. Recovery time is typically 2-3 weeks.
