What Is Microdermabrasion?

One of the best ways to treat damaged skin, particularly due to the harmful effects of the sun, is with microdermabrasion. This is a refinement of the technique that has been used to rejuvenate skin for more than 50 years. In Texas, sun damage causes wrinkling and thickening of the skin, enlarges pores and creates a rough, uneven texture. Microdermabrasion is particularly useful for these conditions. It is a way of “sandblasting” the damaged tissue away using corundum crystals.

Microdermabrasion is not only used to rejuvenate facial skin but is also performed on the chest and arms. At Advanced Plastic Surgery Centre, we use an Ultrapeel® microdermabrasion machine to resurface your skin quickly and precisely with minimal discomfort and faster healing. It is also great to treat acne and superficial scars.

The medical team at Advanced Plastic Surgery Centre has talked with various Houston-area patients about their dissatisfaction with their skin. As a result, many men and women from Spring, The Woodlands, and other nearby locales have chosen microdermabrasion to regain a healthy, youthful appearance.

Am I a Good Candidate for Microdermabrasion?

You may be a good candidate for microdermabrasion if you have any of the following:

  • “Crow’s feet”
  • Age spots
  • Acne scars
  • Chicken pox scars

The Advanced Plastic Surgery Centre staff will be happy to discuss your suitability for microdermabrasion during a scheduled appointment. We have guided many patients in Spring, The Woodlands, and other Houston locales toward the procedure that will help them reach their aesthetic goals.

What Is the Process for Microdermabrasion?

At the beginning of the procedure, your microdermabrasion expert will use a powerful device to spray microcrystals of very fine, sand-like material on your skin’s surface. This will blast away your uppermost layer of dead cells, promoting the growth of new, fresh skin and stimulating the production of collagen. Because it takes about 20 to 30 minutes and there is little to no recovery time, microdermabrasion is sometimes called a “lunchtime peel.” We use diamond bit medical grade microdermabrasion devices to achieve the best results, in the safest manner.

Your microdermabrasion specialist may recommend a series of four to six treatments, with healing time between, to reach the desired results.

Microdermabrasion can be used as a sole treatment procedure or in combination with chemical peels. You can consult with our aesthetician Marina Lopez to determine the best approach.

What Are Microdermabrasion Costs?

Like most cosmetic treatments, the cost for microdermabrasion can vary based on the size of the targeted area, as well as other factors.
