Male Breast Reduction in Houston, TX
Dr. Joseph Perlman offers male breast reduction (gynecomastia) to patients throughout Spring, Houston, The Woodlands, Atascocita, Conroe, Pasadena, Baytown, and the surrounding areas.
What is Male Breast Reduction?
Overdeveloped breasts in men may be caused by a condition known as “gynecomastia.” The condition affects men of all ages and typically begins at birth or during puberty. Enlarged male breasts may also be caused by excess weight or deposits of stubborn fat after a significant weight loss. Men who live with enlarged breasts often feel less masculine and are harshly judged by those around them. If you are a man who has enlarged breasts, Dr. Perlman offers male breast reduction to remove the excess skin and fat, and contour your chest, so you look and feel better.
Am I a Good Candidate for Male Breast Reduction?
During your consultation appointment, Dr. Perlman examines your breasts and discusses your goals for male breast reduction. In general, Dr. Perlman recommends male breast reduction to men who are in good overall health, including maintaining an optimum weight. Age is also a factor, as the breasts need to be fully developed. If you have tried other methods for treating your gynecomastia, and have not had the results that you want, male breast reduction may be a good option for you.
What is the Process for Male Breast Reduction?
In some cases, Dr. Perlman may recommend liposuction as the only procedure to reduce the size of your breasts. For men who have larger breasts, surgery is typically recommended, and liposuction may be performed in conjunction with the surgery. Male breast reduction surgery requires the use of general anesthesia to help you remain comfortable. Dr. Perlman makes a football-shaped incision around your areola and removes the excess skin and fat. He may relocate your areola for a more natural appearance, and he may use liposuction to enhance the natural curves of your chest. Once he is satisfied with the results, he closes the incisions.
What Does Recovery Entail After Male Breast Reduction?
You may be required to wear a special compression bandage during your recovery to help the tissue heal properly. In most cases, male breast reduction patients are required to rest for at least one week after the surgery. This includes restricting all activities and staying home from work or school. Exercising and other strenuous activities must be avoided for at least one month. You may experience some discomfort after your male breast reduction, and Dr. Perlman may prescribe pain medications or recommend an over-the-counter treatment. Dr. Perlman monitors your progress during the follow-up appointments.
